Kenai Peninsula Birding
The Kenai Peninsula has excellent birding to offer as a part of your Alaskan adventure. Alaska has 492 documented species of birds with another 24 unsubstantiated species. The Kenai Peninsula has 286 of those species and at least a dozen more unconfirmed species. Birding on the Kenai Peninsula takes you from alpine birding to saltwater birding. The Kenai and Kasilof River flats provide excellent birding opportunities. Soldotna is at the center of the highway system here on the Peninsula. You can bird by vehicle, boat or on a variety of hiking trails. Our Kenai Peninsula has great birding all year long. In early spring we have many migrant birds that stop to refuel here before going further north. Summer birding is good as we have a wide variety of birds that raise their families here. Fall gives us a good look at more migrants heading south. Winter birding gives us a chance to enjoy our hardy birds that stay here year round.
