The Shop Small Movement is turning 10!
The Soldotna Chamber is celebrating local businesses by launching our first Shop Small Bag Program. This Program will highlight the small, local businesses that create jobs, boost our economy, and make our greater Soldotna home unique!
Small Business Saturday…
(always held the Saturday after Thanksgiving) is meant to inspire you to explore greater Soldotna’s many offerings and share a shopping day with friends, family, and neighbors while celebrating our wonderful communities!
Why:
- In 2018, there were 71,841 small businesses in Alaska.
- 142,448 people in Alaska are employed by small businesses; that’s 53.2% of all Alaskan employees!
- Small businesses have created 2,364 net new jobs in Alaska since 2015.
I’m a local business that’s a Chamber Member; how do I participate? 
On Saturday, November 30th, 2019, 200 bags stuffed with exclusive coupons from local businesses will be distributed at four locations around Soldotna. They’re first-come, first-serve, and will go fast. These four businesses will also host the Shopping Passports- sure to be a hit with your customers. For more information on Shopping Passports, see the below section called, “I’m a community member, how do I participate.”
Sign up by Friday, November 15th, 2019 to be sure your business’s coupon will be included in a Shop Small Bag. Forms are available online. A nominal $25 entry fee per business will help cover the costs of staff time, program marketing, and printing if requested. Coupons submitted can be no larger than 4″ X 8.5″ and 200 coupons must be dropped off to the Soldotna Chamber before Nov. 19th to make it into the bags. I’m a community member, how do I participate?
Join us out on the town on Saturday, November 30th, 2019 to get your tote bag filled with exclusive coupons for local businesses all around greater Soldotna. Show up at 10am. We will be handing out 200 reusable canvas bags filled with local coupons to the first 50 people at each of the following 4 locations: Gamas Designs, Everything Bagels, Dragonfly Gallery, and Frames & Things/ Brew@602. Remember, bags are first-come, first-serve, and will go fast!
Also, pick up a Shopping Passport at one of the four bag locations. Collect at least 10 stamps from small businesses listed on the Passport and then, return the completed Shopping Passport to the Soldotna Chamber by Friday, December 6th at 5pm for a chance to WIN a Soldotna Swag Bag and a $100 American Express Card to shop local! Winner will be announced on Saturday, Dec, 7th at Christmas in the Park in Soldotna Creek Park. THERE’s MORE; for a bonus entry, visit one of the participating small businesses, take a selfie with your #ShopSmall bag, post to our Soldotna Chamber Facebook Page, and tag your Shop Small Selfie with #ShopSmallSoldotna.
